the fiber optic association
Our first partner, the FOA is an international non-profit educational association that is chartered to promote professionalism in fiber optics through education, certification and standards. FOA is also an internationally recognized certifying body.
As of March 31, 2022 they have certified over 87,000 people. We are providing forums for FOA students to network with us.
Pacific NW Broadband Alliance
We are collaborating to develop job training materials and service offerings that enable communities to grow local expertise for the expansion of Broadband infrastructure with Community Owned Internet Networks (COINcommons). By distributing ownership of the infrastructure in a mesh network, capital expenditures for Broadband expansion and operations are decreased using “ smart routers” that automate the billing process, thus removing up to 35% of operational expenditures for the deployment of the “ last mile.” “Pay-per-forward networking is an emerging technology (from Althea) which has the potential to greatly improve Internet access…. by providing an alternate means of coordinating the capital and operating expenses of last mile networks, allowing many independently owned pieces of networking equipment to autonomously trade bandwidth. This eliminates several types of transaction costs, and facilitates new types of bandwidth arbitrage.” #OpenAccessFiber, such as that provided by Underline and middle mile provider 123Net enables a truly free market alternative to the current monopolies and duopolies, where choice of provider is limited or nonexistent.
Internet society courses
The Internet Society supports and promotes the development of the Internet as a global technical infrastructure, a resource to enrich people’s lives, and a force for good in society. Broadband Institute offerings are being created to complement and not compete with other organizations.
